Hello, I’m Barbra
I am endlessly fascinated by the depth of the human spirit: the experiences that shape us, the initiations of change, the stories of love after heartbreak, the quests to find meaning after despair.
My own path has been shaped by experiences of love and loss, by travel in nature, by motherhood, and recently through encountering the challenges of separated parenting and blended families. Like many of you, I have wrestled with existential questions of purpose and passion, and wondered if healthy relationships were just a lofty ideal.
Through my own experiences and learning, I felt a deep calling to support others on this journey of love, intimacy and relationship. I trained in person-centred counselling, transpersonal counselling, somatic psychotherapy, Emotionally-Focused therapy; Imago therapy and Authentic Relating.
As a counsellor, I work with adults and couples who are looking for support through relationship challenges and emotional upheavals marked by grief, anxiety or confusion.
I believe counselling (therapy) can offer you a supportive space for honest conversation and gentle exploration, to understand how to create real lasting change in your life.
“One day you will look back and see that all along, you were blooming.”― Morgan Harper Nichols

My approach to counselling & connection
I believe our life stories are shaped by connection, both to ourselves and to others. My own path has included deep personal change in relation to motherhood, relationship endings and new beginnings, and learning to build strength & resilience in the face of life’s challenges. These experiences have shaped how I work: with real empathy, curiosity, and a belief that people don’t need to be “fixed”, they need to be understood and supported as they grow.
My approach is grounded, gentle, and evidence-based. I draw on a mix of therapeutic styles to help clients find their own answers and move towards healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): for understanding and shifting patterns in relationships
- Somatic Psychotherapy: to help you tune in to your body and regulate emotions
- Client-centred counselling: putting your unique story, values, and needs at the heart of our work
- DBT skills: for building mindfulness, emotional balance, and practical coping tools
No two people or relationships are the same, so we’ll always tailor our sessions to what matters most to you. We might talk, practise grounding exercises, or explore how early experiences influence your current patterns. Sometimes, a small shift in perspective can bring insight and growth or connection.
I work with adults and couples from all walks of life, especially those navigating relationship changes, grief, parenting struggles, anxiety, or feeling lost or disconnected. I’m passionate about creating a space that’s inclusive, affirming, and genuinely warm.
Therapy isn’t just about talking; it’s about giving you a safe space to be real, reflect, and try new ways of being. I’m here to help you find more ease, self-understanding, and connection Whatever that looks like for you.
“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”― Brené Brown

Frequently Asked Questions
It’s natural to have questions before reaching out for support. Here are some of the things people often ask when thinking about starting counselling.
What can I expect in my first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. You can share as much or as little as you like, there’s no pressure or expectation. We’ll talk about what’s been happening for you, what you’d like support with, and you can ask me anything about how I work.
I know it can feel daunting at first, so I’ll meet you wherever you’re at. Many people find that just being able to talk honestly, without judgement, helps them feel lighter by the end of that first hour.
What concerns do people usually bring to counselling?
People reach out for all sorts of reasons: relationship tension or breakups, the stress of motherhood or parenting, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, grief, or simply feeling disconnected from themselves or others.
Some come after big changes, like a loss or separation. Others just want to understand themselves better or communicate more clearly. It’s different for everyone, but the common thread is wanting a little more clarity, self-understanding, or a safe space to talk things through.
How do your fees compare to other therapists in the area?
My fees are set intentionally lower than most local practices because I want counselling to be more accessible for people in our community.
I believe everyone deserves quality support when they need it, so I make sure that affordability never means sacrificing care, attention, or experience.
Do you offer Telehealth services?
Yes, I do. Some people find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own home, especially if they’re living outside of Bangalow or the Northern Rivers.
I run video sessions for anyone across Australia, and it’s a simple process, once you book, I’ll send you a link and instructions. If you’re new to online counselling, I’m happy to walk you through it or start with a free 15-minute meet and greet.
